Lodgement of the Notice of Intended Marriage in Brisbane
There is a lot of miss information on the internet and on wedding websites regarding the lodgement of the Notice of Intended Marriage.
The Notice of Intended Marriage needs to be lodged with your chosen celebrant at least one month prior to your wedding date.
The Notice of Intended Marriage is not lodged with Births Deaths and Marriages prior to your wedding unless to are getting married at the Brisbane Registry Office.
If you read The Marriage Act 1961 and read the Notice of Intended Marriage you will see on the front of the Notice of Intended Marriage it has the proposed day, date, time and location of the intended marriage in the top left hand corner and then on the back underneath your signatures the actual date and location that the marriage was solemnised by the celebrant as these can quite often be different for a number of reasons.
Couples change venues, change dates due to relatives and friends holidays and due to unexpected surprises such as a new addition to the family that will not allow the wedding dress to fit.
Your Brisbane celebrant is required by law to wait until after performing the ceremony to complete the back part of the Notice of Intended Marriage and then send that plus your official marriage certificate to Births Deaths and Marriages Brisbane - this is not the commemorative certificate you receive on your wedding day.
